Physical: Common rocks of the earth’s crust: weathering, erosion, climate and weather, ocean currents, and major soil types. Social: The nature and distribution of major world cultural areas, the colonial heritage, world distribution and density of population, settlement patterns, and communication networks. Economic: Primary e.g. Forestry, secondary e.g. manufacturing and tertiary industries, e.g. Transport and Tourism.
A study of Ireland, Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. This study includes the study of the physical, social and economic features of the of these 14 European Countries. Section D: Field studies of the local region or of a particular section of local geography. Note: Geography fulfills one of the two science subject requirements for Science and Pharmacy courses in TCD. There are changes in the structure of the Leaving Certificate Examination in Geography. There is, as with History, a research project for Geography. Please read enclosed letter. The Geography teacher will discuss any changes in course and examination structure.
